The first decade. Layouts held together by tables, spacer GIFs, and a browser landscape where the same page could look like two different products.
I coded all of it by hand because there was nothing else to code it with. That is where the habit came from, and it never left.
I keep this volume in the archive on purpose. It shows what the work looked like before the tools got good, and it is a useful reminder that the tools were never the reason a site worked.
